New Unicorn Puppet

This is the latest puppet to come out of the workshop. She is a unicorn named Silaria that I built for Sheri Rockhill in Pennsylvania.

I loved working on this puppet because she has a lot of nice subtle shapes. I also really like the simplicity of the overall design that I received from Sheri. I think it will truly allow the character to come through in the performance. It also makes the eyes stand out well.

Sheri wanted to be able to perform her both from behind a stage and out in the open, so her legs are removeable. Dangling legs can really get in the way of stage performance.

She was also supposed to have a subltle rainbow colored hair. That posed quite a challenge. There isn’t much available in that style commercially, so I had to experiment with a few techniques. I ended up spraying white fur lightly with pastel colored spray paints and brushing the color through the fibers. It worked like a charm–and the hair still moves very naturally without sticking together.

Once again you ROCK! (that was from Harlan…) Great job man. can’t wait to see more.
